Job Description

We are seeking an individual to join Alexandra Park Conference Centre. The focus of this role is to provide hands-on leadership in the provision of quality catering services and add to the overall guest experience at Alexandra Park Conference Centre.

The position’s key responsibilities include:

Perform general and specialised cooking, butchering, baking and pastry cooking duties;

Undertake ordering and stock control;

Design, plan, compile, cost and implement menus and standard recipes for standard seasonal menu cycles, as well as for special functions and events, as directed by the Assistant Manager;

Implement, maintain and monitor a workable hygiene and documented food safety program, adhering to and ensuring we remain compliant with legislation and recognised standards/guidelines. Ensure that scheduled and unscheduled cleaning and maintenance of kitchen, serving and dining areas are carried out in a safe and timely manner to meet management and customer expectations;

Monitor the quality of the product and service provided, to ensure that the standard of service and quality of food offered meets Alex Park’s quality standards and expectations of our customers;

In consultation with the Assistant Manager, Alexandra Park Conference Centre, conduct reviews of menus to ensure nutritional value, seasonal availability, appropriateness to groups, minimise wastage and re-utilise food products in a safe and healthy manner to meet food cost budgets;

Supervision, roster changes and time management, training of other cooks and kitchen employees;

Undertake other duties as and when directed within the scope of the role and the capabilities of the incumbent.

What do you need to be successful in this role.

  • Qualifications and Requirements:

Trade qualification as a chef or equivalent.

Completion of additional appropriate training

Suitability Card for Child Related Employment (Blue Card)

  • Experience, Attributes and Skills:

Previous experience in a commercial kitchen environment with bulk cooking, computerised: menu creation, food ordering, booking and rostering programs

Availability over a changing seven-day roster

Previous experience in supervising and leading a catering team in a hands-on manner

Ability to work as part of a team

Service: personable with a commitment to building strong relationships with key stakeholders/customers across the Church and its agencies, boards and committees of the Synod and clients of Alexandra Park

Responsibility: demonstrated attention to detail, timeliness, analytical and focused on outcomes

Respect: demonstrated ability to clearly communicate orally and in writing with others and manage competing views

Integrity: demonstrated ability to act with impartiality and honesty
